Different Terms for our principal form of worship
By Pat Lee | November 20, 2007
- Eucharist is from a Greek Work meaning “Giving Thanks” — we gather to give thanks to God
- “Communion” — we gather in the presence of the Risen Jesus (in communion with the Risen Jesus) and are strengthened by his presence as we share in the blessed bread and wine. We are brought closer to God and to each other.
- The Lord’s Supper — the meal instituted by Jesus which he commanded us to continue
Anglican worship is “common prayer”. We use set liturgical texts and an ordered set of scripture readings which allow us to reflect on all the themes of the good news of Jesus Christ, the love of God and the activity of the Holy Spirit. Anglican worship may be plain or elaborate — traditional or “contemporary” or a blend — but it is always Biblical, Trinitarian and Sacramental.
